This Reminds Me Of Many Auditions

Really all I can say is.... "Lord Bless Him"
For those of my TRUTH alum compatriots.....enjoy!!

What would you say to him if he just auditioned to be in your group?
How do you encourage and critique at the same time?
So are the days of our lives.........

First of all..He needs to learn the words to the doggone song! My goodness. Maybe a track is not the best way for him to go.
Is this his first time hearing the track? If not, did he listen to it all the way thru to know when the key changed, when to start?
Did he learn the song differently than the track?
My advise: Get a coach. Then come back after some much needed practice! Whew!

A bad habit I fell into when I used tracks at the old country church in KY was holding the lead sheet in one hand, and the mic in the other. You find yourself "ministering" to the lead sheet instead of ministering to the congregation, meaning not establishing eye contact with the crowd.

As for listening to the song first, he obviously did not hear it with the full vocals so he would know the melody, where to come in and the key change, as Paula said.

Another observation: this looked like a small chruch, so the talent pool for singers is small, but just him getting up there and making the effort gives the honor to Him. Having been a member of some small churches, I can feel for this guy.

I know the question was what would I say to him, and how would I encourage and critique at the same time. However, depends on the size of the church. If he was auditioning for an exalter at FHC, I would tell him to get some lessons, but encourage him to keep it up for the glory of God, and then if he improves very well, then it's a possibility. At the old country church, I would tell him that the Lord gave him the courage to sing, and to keep it up for His glory alone, and with practice he will be better.
